What are your top 3 networking tips?

1) Be genuinely selfless and altruistic, always giving referrals

2) Always follow through with any action you promise to the other person

3) Arrive early, leave late and keep your focus on why you are at a particular event

What can’t you live without?

I can’t live without my iPhone keeping me in touch with global markets, clients and the financial news of the world.

Which Business Book Would Your Recommend & Why?

I would recommend Keith Ferrazzi’s ’Never Eat Alone’ as it is truly inspiring for any business professionals looking to build their networks. Keith provides simple steps to build your network and your reputation as a connector of people.

How Did Your Find Out About BNI & Why Did You Join?

I found out about BNI from an Ambassador who was the President of my Chapter. I joined to meet like-minded professionals, share business insights and work together in a well-structured forum to help others build their businesses.

How Long Have You Been a Member For?

6 months

What value & benefit have you or your business gained by being a BNI Member?

I have had the opportunity to meet a number of professionals in my Chapter I am now working with in running events, referring clients onto and building a solid business relationship with. I also find the weekly 10 minute presentation very insightful to learn about other business models I would not have otherwise had the opportunity to learn about.

What Do You Wish Someone Had Told Your When You First Joined BNI?

The main feature of BNI that I am learning by experience is all of the opportunities that are available in this vast, structured system. From helpful articles to online events and forums there are many opportunities for BNImembers to simply take advantage of.

Do You Have a BNI Story To Share?

I have had a limited amount of time within the BNI network however I have already found it very beneficial. I recently learnt about the power of giving a clear and concise 10 minute presentation to give your ’sales-team’ the skills they need to provide you with solid referrals. I have since had requests to schedule dances with most members of my Chapter which is a very pleasing result.

Your Dream Referral Is…

I have two main dream referrals. The first is the Director of a Corporate Advisory firm specialising in raising capital for Australian resources firms. The second is a client with a self-managed superannuation fund looking to gain exposure to the Australian stockmarket.

What are your top 3 networking tips?

  • Take time to build strong relationships.
  • Think outside the square, referrals can come from the most unexpected places.
  • Be prepared to put in the hard yards, the only place you will encounter work before success in the dictionary.

What can’t you live without?

My friends & music

Which Business Book Would Your Recommend & Why?

Haven’t read many business books but ”Blink” by Malcolm Gladwell discusses the power of intuition and making fast decisions and how snap judgements can sometimes be more effective than a cautious decision.

How Did Your Find Out About BNI & Why Did You Join?

My Hairdresser joined and suggested I go to a meeting. I needed something to kick start my business and something to keep me motivated on a regular basis, mission accomplished.

What value & benefit have you or your business gained by being a BNI Member?

BNI has helped me market my business. The skills I have learned filter down to the way I deal with my customers who see me as a more confident and trustworthy person.
I have increased my revenue from the customers that have been referred to me by my fellow members.

What Do You Wish Someone Had Told Your When You First Joined BNI?

Nothing really, I just wish I had joined when I fist started my business as I had a lot more time on my hands.

Do You Have a BNI Story To Share?

Our chapter had to sing their 60 second pitch. Scary but it was a real confidence booster. If I can stand up in front of thirty people and sing I can do anything.

Your Dream Referral Is…

Middle to high income earners with young children who see the value of preserving their family history through photography.

What are your top 3 networking tips?

  • Be specific, if you can’t be clear about what you want, how do you expect others to help?
  • The more referrals you give the more you get: helping others is its own reward.
  • Always be more interested in other people and their businesses. People pick up on when you make it all about you. Besides, you might just learn something!

What can’t you live without?

My iPad.  Sad but true

Which Business Book Would Your Recommend & Why?

I’m currently reading Dr Ivan Misner’s Business Networking and Sex. With a title like that, why wouldn’t you read it!

How Did Your Find Out About BNI & Why Did You Join?

A chapter member met me at another local networking event and invited me along. At first I resisted because of the commitment required, but that is the very reason it works and I’m glad I joined.

What Position/s On The Leadership Team Have You Held?

What value & benefit have you or your business gained by being a BNI Member?

BNI puts a framework around the way I look for new business, both inside and outside of BNI. It gives me a weekly opportunity to step outside the day to day running of a business and invigorate what and how I do things.

What Do You Wish Someone Had Told Your When You First Joined BNI?

You don’t have to bring a referral every week, there are many ways to contribute to the group.

Do You Have a BNI Story To Share?

I am amazed at how past members from the chapter always visit me first when they need a mattress. It demonstrates that good things come to those who wait.

We help our clients grow and become more profitable by designing sales and marketing tools that clearly say what they do and why they are the best choice.

What are your top 3 networking tips?

  • Enjoy yourself. Just like a smile on the telephone, people know if you are faking it.
  • Remember peoples names. Write it down, or make a quick note on your phone’s ’Notes’ tool. We all really feel special when we are addressed by our name.
  • Be memorable. Wear something just a little bit different. Professional, but expressive. White shirt and black suit is smart, but its hard to tell one yellow cab from the next.

Which Business Book Would Your Recommend & Why?

Outliers – The Story of Success
by Malcolm Gladwell
For those of us who feel like our peers are more gifted and talented than we are, this book proves that being ‘gifted’ is just the foot in the door of success. The other 90% is hard work and persistence.

How Did Your Find Out About BNI & Why Did You Join?

My business coach is a member and Director, and he suggested it [without giving too much away!] I joined because of the positive environment and structured agenda.

How Long Have You Been a Member For?

What Position/s On The Leadership Team Have You Held?

President, Visitors Host

What value & benefit have you or your business gained by being a BNI Member?

I have met some fantastic people and made friends with many. I have access to a wealth of knowledge and expertise that has helped me grow both personally and professionally. We have made back our investment 10 times over, and understand the formula of effort and reward within BNI. I put in a lot of effort, and can see that my chapter enjoys the meetings – this is very gratifying.

What Do You Wish Someone Had Told Your When You First Joined BNI?

Get a position of visibility – fast!

Do You Have a BNI Story To Share?

My story is a recurring one. Each time I ask for a specific referral with the name of the person I need to make friends with – somebody knows them. This is the power of clarity and focus. Clarity on what you want, and focusing on how to get to it. Its strategy without even realising it – and all this happens while we eat breakfast!

Your Dream Referral Is…

A marketing manager in a medium sized organisation that requires great communication tools on a regular basis. We will help them develop a clear, consistent message that increases their visibility and grows their business. Financially, it’d be worth 150% of the national average ROI for BNI members.

Do You Have a BNI Story To Share?

I had the privilege of meeting Dr Misner on his visit to Australia so years ago. At that meeting he told us that when travelling either for business or pleasure you should check and see if there is an BNI chapter and attend a meeting.
You will meet other BNI businesses, you will also learn the best places to check out.
On hearing this, when I turn 50 me and a mate hired a red mustang convertible and did Route 66.to Chicago then on to New York. This took a month.
Before leaving I emailed BNI HQ and organised to attend a training seminar. Then each week attended a local BNI meeting as I traveled across the United States.
It was fantastic
Las Vegas, Amarillo,Kansas, however the peak was the a New York chapter they met in the Rockefeller Building.
This was a dynamic group with lots of energy
I was chuffed when I received a referral from a member to quote on cleaning his office.
To encourage members to visit us in Oceanview I offered at all chapters breakfast on me for anyone who would attend our BNI Chapter Oceanview Manly
One lovely lady from arbon took up the offer when visiting Australia
I can highly recommend that when you are away to find a BNI chapter and visit.
