We all do business with people we know, like and trust. As BNI members we are very aware of this concept, which is embedded in BNI culture as “Visibility + Credibility = Profitability”.

But building the visibility and trust that must be present before we close a new deal takes time, effort – and many communication touch points.

Be Featured, Be Visible

We’ve been running the Featured Member section of the BNI Blog for 2 years now.  Over this period, we have seen a steady increase of the cut-through it has created for those BNI members who made use of this opportunity.  And since moving the section to the highly visible top-left corner of our monthly newsletter, the numbers have risen further.

Last month, a Featured Member asked us how many clicks her listing got from the newsletter. Good question! When we pulled up the numbers for her, she was surprised just how many more people had viewed and interacted with her Featured Member profile.

Getting More out of Your Profile

Until March 2014, Featured Members were listed in the bottom-left column of the newsletter.  We want to give our member profiles as much exposure as possible, and always look for new ways to make that happen.  So we trialled the new top-spot in April, to see what impact that change may have. We also posted any new Featured Member profiles on our Facebook page

And now the results are in.

First In, Most Viewed

All members whose profile we featured in April experienced a sharp rise of profile views: between 270% to 380% more views than in March, in fact.

Now that’s a good bit of extra visibility!

And if you were one of the ultra-switched on people and got your Featured Member form to us first – thus gaining the top stop on the newsletter list – you were rewarded with the highest number of extra clicks.

Interestingly, the absolute number of additional views between the top spot and the fourth only varied by 25% – but those extra 48 to 60 clicks meant a lot to all.

Another Step in Your Marketing

While the absolute viewing numbers might not seem huge at first glance, don’t underestimate the snowball effect of BNI and referrals: whoever viewed each profile has a large network to whom our Featured Members could potentially be referred.  So suddenly 60 becomes 600 or even 6,000 more opportunities.

As the saying goes: any PR is good PR.  And any professionally-done marketing piece such as your member profile featured on the BNI Blog is another piece in the puzzle of getting you seen, liked and trusted.
