What are your top 3 networking tips?

1. Smile and be genuine. People naturally want to be around positive people and they will see through any facades. Be your happy self.

2. Network with people outside of your own industry group. Staying within your own industry is simply networking with your competitors.

3. Get involved. By genuinely rolling up your sleeves and helping, you will build relationships that matter. Show people how you work when you are at your best. These types of relationships build trust and friendships that almost always lead to business opportunities.

What can’t you live without?

Google; having information at your fingertips is the ultimate time-saver! (Remember the family debates that used to occur before the internet!)

Which Business Book Would Your Recommend & Why? 

“Who Moved my Cheese” by Spencer Johnson. A quick read that masterfully depicts four typical reactions to change and how to deal with it whether it occurs in work or life.

How Did Your Find Out About BNI & Why Did You Join?

I was invited by two members, Wells Humphrey from Chris Humphrey Office National and Wendy Cox from Wendy Cox Human Resource Consulting. I joined for three main reasons: to increase our brand awareness locally, develop new business relationships and lock our competitors out.

What value & benefit have you or your business gained by being a BNI Member?

We have developed strong business relationships with a variety of businesses that we otherwise wouldn’t have had the opportunity to get to know. Personally, the professional development I have gained by taking on positions with the leadership team and learning to articulate what it is we do in a 30-second snapshot has been great.

What Do You Wish Someone Had Told Your When You First Joined BNI? 

To complete a 1:1 with every member of the chapter as soon as possible.

Do You Have a BNI Story to share?

My favourite BNI memory was earlier this year at the Regional Awards Breakfast. Dr. Ivan Misner was speaking to us (thanks to modern technology) and took some questions from the floor. I asked him his recommendations for maintaining culture in a chapter that is experiencing rapid growth and when he heard that we have achieved over 50 members in less than 18 months since our launch he physically bowed down. That was the highest of compliments for our chapter. A great moment!
