I am an Investment Adviser at Patersons Securities, one of Australia’s leading full service stockbroking and financial services firms. I specialise in providing professional and timely advice on building balanced share portfolios, creating sophisticated trading strategies and assisting companies in raising capital providing opportunities for clients to invest in new floats and secondary raisings.

What are your top 3 networking tips?

1) Be genuinely selfless and altruistic, always giving referrals

2) Always follow through with any action you promise to the other person

3) Arrive early, leave late and keep your focus on why you are at a particular event

What can’t you live without?

I can’t live without my iPhone keeping me in touch with global markets, clients and the financial news of the world.

I would recommend Keith Ferrazzi’s ’Never Eat Alone’ as it is truly inspiring for any business professionals looking to build their networks. Keith provides simple steps to build your network and your reputation as a connector of people.

How Did Your Find Out About BNI & Why Did You Join?

I found out about BNI from an Ambassador who was the President of my Chapter. I joined to meet like-minded professionals, share business insights and work together in a well-structured forum to help others build their businesses.

What value & benefit have you or your business gained by being a BNI Member?

I have had the opportunity to meet a number of professionals in my Chapter I am now working with in running events, referring clients onto and building a solid business relationship with. I also find the weekly 10 minute presentation very insightful to learn about other business models I would not have otherwise had the opportunity to learn about.

What Do You Wish Someone Had Told Your When You First Joined BNI? 

The main feature of BNI that I am learning by experience is all of the opportunities that are available in this vast, structured system. From helpful articles to online events and forums there are many opportunities for BNImembers to simply take advantage of.

Do You Have a BNI Story To Share?

I have had a limited amount of time within the BNI network however I have already found it very beneficial. I recently learnt about the power of giving a clear and concise 10 minute presentation to give your ’sales-team’ the skills they need to provide you with solid referrals. I have since had requests to schedule dances with most members of my Chapter which is a very pleasing result.

Your Dream Referral Is…

I have two main dream referrals. The first is the Director of a Corporate Advisory firm specialising in raising capital for Australian resources firms. The second is a client with a self-managed superannuation fund looking to gain exposure to the Australian stockmarket.
